Adventures in Transformation
Have you ever stood at the edge of a dream, heart racing, wondering if you should take the plunge? I have. And let me tell
Grief Recovery for Adults is less about me, the author, and more about you and your personalized healing process through the PURPOSE framework.
The PURPOSE framework is designed to guide you through your grief toward a renewed sense of self and purpose in a way that is personalized to you. We know there’s no cookie-cutter approach to healing, and that’s why this framework helps.
Within the framework, we focus on the following, gently guiding your forward.
From the author of Life After Losses: A Memoir of Self-Healing, comes the follow-up, Moving Past Grief: A Collection of Stories and Strategies to Help You Heal. In this companion piece, author James LaVeck shares some additional stories and strategies he used in his healing journey after being widowed twice before his 48th birthday, including an expansion and deeper dive into the Thirteen Pieces of Advice he shared in Life After Losses.
Death and grief are universal experiences, and while we all grieve differently, there are similarities in all our journeys.
There isn’t a “perfect” way to grieve, but the author hopes that in sharing these strategies, the reader will find inspiration to spark their own, personal healing journey.

Life lessons learned from losses.
Life After Losses is a profoundly personal story of one man’s resilience and optimism in the face of death and grief; my story. I have the authenticity to tell it like it is, having been widowed twice. I’ve learned a thing or two about grief and recovery, plus several life lessons along the way.
I know that we all grieve differently, but we also all go through many of the same emotions and processes. What worked and didn’t my first time informed how I managed to get through the second time.
Through storytelling, I take you with me on my grief journey, sharing practical advice, reassurance, and guidance along the way. You’ll find you’re not alone, and I believe you’ll emerge from the path into the light where you’ll be left with the hope that it does get better. You’ll be uplifted and inspired to heal.

I did.
After I lost my first husband, I spent two years looking for answers at the bottom of a bottle. I pushed people away. I was in so much pain that all I wanted was to feel nothing.
I went to a support group (I at least had the presence of mind to do that), but I was going through the motions.
But eventually, I finally realized I was stuck doing the same thing expecting different results; they very definition of insanity!
And I wasn’t living up to the promises I’d made while he was lying on his death bed. I was not honoring his memory or our love.
I’ve been grieving my husband since August 1995. My third piece of advice is that it never goes away. I don’t believe it does, but I have learned there are strategies that can make it bearable.
By the time I lost my second husband in January 2014, I had learned a number of life lessons relative to grief and healing, which gave me a bit of control over how I processed my grief, while teaching my kids how to grieve.
Do you want a strategy about dealing with the calendar and the inevitable dates?
How about what to do when your uncle tells you to hit the bars and find a replacement?
Or when your friends say they’re tired of hearing about your late husband?
Thirteen Strategies to Help You Heal From Loss is a workbook that will prompt you to think about responses to things like these.
These strategies were adapted from my book Life After Losses and expanded in this format to help inspire others heal from their loss, or losses.
The workbook will give you:
